Sister Souljah talks about Interest Convergence
Funny. We were just talking about the necessity of interest convergence in social change making in my Advocacy and Education class in Argentina.

When we talk about abnormality in the black personality, when we talk about feelings of inferiority in black people, feelings of self-hatred and self-alienation, feelings of incompetence feelings of powerlessness…we must recognize that these feelings are a political and economic necessity. And, we should start from that premise if we’re to understand the psychology of black people.
…In order for us to be in the state we’re in today as people, we have to be out of our minds. We literally have to be crazy. It is necessary for us to be crazy; it is necessary for us to be backwards; it is necessary for us to be maladjusted; it is necessary for us to be dis-united; it is necessary for us to be self-hating, it is necessary for us to be filled with an inferiority complex.
In a world where the European is essentially about 10 percent of the world’s population, if that 10 percent is to continue to rule over the other 90 percent, it must keep that 90 percent out of its mind. It must keep that 90 percent in a state of deception. It must keep that 90 percent filled with a feeling of powerlessness and incompetence.
If this 10 percent is to continue to consume more than 60 percent of the world’s resources, if this 10 percent is to continue to rob African, Asian and other nations of their material wealth, then it must keep those people in a state of maladjustment.
Dr. Amos Wilson, psychologist and author of Blueprint for Black Power, in a video called, “Necessity of Black Inferiority Complex to Racism”, discusses the mental health issues of non-white people under a global system of Racism (White Supremacy). He asserts that the maladjusted black/non-white person is the “foundation of European dominance”. This means that everything we consume or are exposed to in all major areas of people activity is designed to develop that maladjustment in non-white people.
Dr. Wilson continues in the video by stating that once a non-white person internalizes Racist (White Supremacist) propaganda (which can be deeply ingrained by the time one reaches 3 years old), he or she often becomes a social agent for the Racist (White Supremacist) system.
A large part of resisting Racism (White Supremacy) is addressing deep seated disorders and mental health issues as a result of the trauma directly or indirectly caused by Racism. Non-white people who have self-respect and have a healthy view of themselves become more likely to resist their perpetual victimization.

An investigative mind and physical skills are just tools. The most important weapon in your arsenal will be your ability to adapt. We can study, we can condition, we can plan, but most of what we do is deal with challenges and obstacles with no prior warning. We prepare for the unknowable and when faced with them—think quickly and act quicker. It’s much more then “not panicking.” Staying cool is a given. That’s the least of what I expect from you. When you’re at an utter loss as to what’s going on and what will happen next, you step up to the situation and take control.
Dick Grayson -
If you fail to notice the ways you externally or internally perpetuate individual, institutional, or cultural sexism, racism, heterosexism or homophobia, classism, or any other form of social oppression in your life, then you cannot begin to work to undo these things to the benefit of! yourself and others. LEARN TO NOTICE because “I didn’t know” and “I’m sorry” are simply not enough, and life is too short to tear communities down rather than build them up. You have the power, and if you don’t know how, what, or why….then ask.
